2-9-2010 8:43 AM, Temp. 44.8 F, Wind Calm, Rain earlier this morning but has quit for now, overnight low was 41.8 F, the forecast calls for a hi today of 49F. Tonight's low should be in the mid 20's and tomorrows high in the low 40's. The Following is from the ABC 33/40 Weather site @ www.abc3340.com

AN ICY WIND: Northwest winds will increase this afternoon, gusting as high as 25 mph, bringing in much colder air. Temperatures will fall into the 30s this afternoon, and there could be enough lingering moisture for a few snow flurries across the northern half of the state. All of the precipitation will end by late afternoon, and we will forecast gradual clearing tonight with lows down in the mid 20s by daybreak tomorrow. Tomorrow and Thursday will be cold and dry with highs in the 40 to 45 degree range.

POTENTIAL WINTER STORM FRIDAY: The next system in the southern branch of the jet stream will impact Alabama on Friday, and with a very cold airmass in place, the stage is set for potential winter storm conditions across the Deep South. It is too early to be specific; we really need to get today’s weather system out of here before we get deal with accumulation possibilities, but computer model data suggests several inches of snow could fall over parts of Alabama, with the best moisture axis actually showing up south of Birmingham. Seems like the “sweet spot” could very well be somewhere between I-20 and U.S. 84. This system does have the potential for some travel difficulties, but again it doesn’t make too much sense trying to get into deep detail at this early stage of the game. Keep an eye on our forecasts in coming days; it promises to be pretty interesting.
